The first Olympic Games of the modern era, held in Athens in 1896, also included swimming. In 1908 the Fédération Internationale de Natation Amateur was organized to celebrate racing fans. The women ’s competition was first included in the Olympic Games of 1912.
International competitions have been sponsored clubs in Europe for swimming enthusiasts since the late nineteenth century. However, until the 1920s these competitions were not defined on a stable and regular basis. Britain had created some competitions between the member nations of the British Empire before 1910. The first official game of the British Empire, where swimming was an important component, were held in Canada in 1930. Swimming now plays a key role in several other international competitions, the most prominent Pan American Games and Asian and Mediterranean competitions.

This sport has two modes, the swimming that proper and synchronized swimming, tests were performed in a 50 meter pool. The International Swimming Federation (FINA) can include the following number of participants and tests according to each discipline:
1- Swimming: 727 athletes compete individually and team in a total of 16 specific tests for each mode, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, individual medley, free relays and relay individually.
2- synchronized swimming: 104 athletes, competing exclusively female for 4 days in individual and team events .
The swimming competition includes individual and team tests. In mixed races all four styles of -crol competition, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly ’s are used for individual following a certain order and one for teams. In tests relay teams consist of four swimmers who take turns; the total time determines what the winning team.
In international competitions the length of the tests between 50 and 1,500 meters. World records are only recognized when set in pools of 50 m in length. Competition has become so strong that it has been necessary to define very precise rules for different styles and regulate the physical conditions: size and shape of the pool, equipment type, demarcation of streets, water temperature, all important elements to determining the performance. Electronic devices for measuring and timing have almost replaced the judges and timekeepers at swimming events.
