Archery is the art, practice , or skill in using a bow and arrow for hunting, war and sport. Modern arches used to launch arrows are constructed of wood, fiberglass, graphite or carbon compounds with a tightrope connecting the folded edges of the arc.
The arrows are usually metal, aluminum, carbon or graphite ; a sharp end and the other carries feathers that serve as stabilizers during the flight and a notch which serves to set the arrow on the bowstring. When the rope is tightened, the arch sags; to reach the point of maximum tension the rope is released and the arrow shot out .

The archery amateur sport has been popular for a long time, particularly in England. The tournament archery bow oldest held uninterruptedly and still existing, known as the Ancient Scorton Arrow, began in Yorkshire in 1673; in 1781 he founded the Royal toxophilite (Greek toxon, ‘arc’; philos, ‘lover’, ‘friend’) Society, to promote the sport.
The archery competitions are divided into several categories: diana, hunting and flight distance. The main evidence of target shooting tournament called rounds and the number of arrows and distance are prespecified. The front of the targets are made of paper and held on a straw mat. The target is circular and has a concentric series of rings around a solid core and placed at a height of 1.3 meters above the ground. Extending outward from the center, the colors of the rings are gold, red, blue, black and white. The rings have assigned values in points for arrows that affect them; the value ranges from 10 (in the center ring of gold color), to 1 (on the outside of the white ring).
This sport was part of the Olympic Games in 1900, 1904, 1908 and 1920. Then cut up which again became an Olympic sport for men and women in the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. Modernized in 1992 to increase interest, the Olympic rolls consist of a qualifying round, a tie, a final, a playoff team and team final. Individual tests encompass 64 archers shooting at the same time all targets located 70 m away; those who get the highest score, after several runs qualifiers compete for medals. The competition is conducted in accordance with the rules of the World Archery Federation.
The hunting method simulates a hunt, with small white located at different distances in a natural setting. In the mode of flight distance, the target is the distance traveled by the arrow, rather than throwing accuracy.
Although the sport of archery was already in the program of the Olympic Games in 1900, in 1920 was expelled from the competition due to the disparity of existing regulations between different countries.
Since 1972 several countries were grouped to form the World Archery Federation (FITA). This federation allows the participation of 128 athletes, both male and female, competing for 6 days both individually and in teams. Combining precision, pulse and strength, athletes shoot at a target of 1.22 meters located 70 meters away.
