boxing is a sport in which two people fight each other only with their fists. A boxing match takes place under established rules and has a referee, judges and a timekeeper. The term pugilism, Latin Pugil, ‘boxer’ is also sometimes used to refer to the sport.
The goal of every fighter is to beat your opponent, to try to bring it down and incapacitate to return to stand and defend himself before elapses ten seconds. Many fights are decided by points. In Britain, the Amateur Boxing Association first established a point system. Today in the world there are different scoring systems.

For many years, boxing British professional has used the five - point system, but in 1973 was adopted on ten points, which is the most used in the world. The best fighter you are awarded ten points for each assault; if the shares of both fighters are valued equally given the maximum to both. Points are earned by clean punches connected with the knuckle area of the glove, launched closed to any front or side of the head or body above the belt fist; for a good defensive work in the guard, dodge and wriggle. When both contestants are evenly matched in the above, the maximum score is given to more aggressive or showing better technique. In Britain professional boxing is judged by a referee while in most other countries there is one referee and two judges and the decision is given by majority vote. Originally the term prizefighting ( ‘fight for the prize’) was used when an even money bet was made, but the term professional boxing now has the same meaning. Amateur boxing refers to bouts in which there is no money in the bet.
Amateur boxing was organized in Britain in the late 1860s and the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) held its first championships in 1881. At the beginning 1900 several countries had their own amateur boxing associations. Boxing was part of the Olympic Games in 1904 and continuing until today, since 1920.
